چکیده
Abstract The new challenges related to the monitoring of Earth’s shape and motion have led global geodetic observing system set more stringent requirements on precision stability terrestrial reference frame (TRF). achievement this ambitious goal depends improvement space geodesy techniques, satellite laser ranging (SLR) in particular, being main instrument for TRF realization. In work, we study potential very high repetition rate SLR by performing a data acquisition campaign with an Ekspla “Atlantic 60” 100 kHz at Matera Laser Ranging Observatory (MLRO). This constitutes increase two orders magnitude respect current stations, while maintaining good single-shot timing performance. has been active 4 consecutive nights, consistently tracking several low Earth orbit satellites as well LAGEOS 1 2. results shown time jitter close other but unprecedented statistics $$\approx 10$$ ≈ 10 ps precision. analysis residuals allowed us identify multiple peaks, due retroflection from different corner cubes. opens up possibility attitude determination retroreflector arrays, method spin measurement.

Ranging performance of satellite laser altimeters
Topographic mapping of the earth, moon and planets can be accomplished with high resolution and accuracy using satellite laser altimeters. These systems employ nanosecond laser pulses and microradian beam divergences to achieve submeter vertical range resolution from orbital altitudes of several hundred kilometers. In this paper we develop detailed expressions for the range and pulse width meas...
متن کاملGNSS Satellite Orbit Validation Using Satellite Laser Ranging
With a total of four new regional and global navigation satellite systems that have launched first satellites or even started an operational service, the GNSS landscape has experienced major changes in recent years. As part of the Multi-GNSS Experiment (MGEX) of the International GNSS Service (IGS), a global network of multi-GNSS monitoring stations has been established and various analysis cen...
متن کاملThe Apache Point Observatory Lunar Laser-ranging Operation (apollo)
Lunar Laser Ranging (LLR) is the only means available for testing Einstein’s Strong Equivalence Principle, on which general relativity rests. LLR also provides the strongest limits to date on variability of the gravitational constant, the best measurement of the de Sitter precession rate, and is relied upon to generate accurate astronomical ephemerides. LLR is poised to take a dramatic step for...
